Ethan and I are slowing down our hiking trips we started this past May and I miss the regular visits to the mountains already! We have been working towards climbing all 48 of the 4000 footers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. A goal we are 12 mountains away from achieving.
Ok, these trips did come with some discomfort — fighting off black flies and mosquitoes, long days spent enduring the heat during the peak of summer and let’s not forget the many physical challenges of hiking in the White Mountains. BUT there was so much scenic beauty it was mind blowing, every challenging step up a giant, craggy, rock was coupled with so many laughs with my lovely husband, our 4-legged companion, Smoky, and sometimes friends. We also had way more good weather days than bad. Overall I have had one of the most fun and creative past few months, in and out of the office, I have had in a really long time.
If you get a chance to unplug and go hiking I highly recommend it. Exposure to the open air, separation from electronic devices (this one was a really tough one for me) and time not thinking about work actually may help you be more productive AT work!
